Does anybody have a recipe for egg biscuit?
« Thread Started on Jun 14, 2005, 5:52pm »

My birds will do anything I want them to do, as long as an egg biscuit is involved.

They're really expensive for what they are, so I was wondering if anyone has made them? I would prefer to do that, because I could sneak a pellet or two into the batter.

No, I haven't made any, but I found this site that has many to choose from. 'cooks.com' click on the first listing, than just type in 'egg biscuits' where it says 'recipe search' on pg.2 it has many, and pg.4 it even has a recipe for dog biscuits. Maybe you will come up with one thats good. Good luck, Alice

Sarah's Aussie Egg and biscuit

An effective home made variation to buying egg and biscuit from stores is below.

1. Beat 1 egg in a bowl with a fork
2. Cook beaten egg in microwave until egg hard (1min approx or until liquid gone)
3. Break up egg with fork into small pieces (fine mixing done with hands in step 5.)
4. Put egg and rice crumbs* (1/2 cup approx) in a deep bowl (as mixing is a little messy)
5. Rub cooked egg into rice crumbs with two clean hands (similar to rubbing butter into flour - rub mix between your thumb and fingers)
6. When a fine crumb mixture is formed, this should be enough for 2 small budgie bowls

They love to eat it warm. Remember not to keep the mixture in the cage for more than 1 day as moist food breeds bacteria. Tip - Buy small plastic containers and store excess in freezer for up to 2wks. Reheat in microwave for 1min, wait 5-10 for it to cool (check!) and give to birdies!

*Rice crumbs are an alternative to bread crumbs. They make a better quality egg + biscuit, as they are finer and also do not create yeast/crop infections, as there is no yeast. Available in health food stores or the health food section of many supermarkets. Cheap too!

I found this recipe in my "Healthy Bird Cookbook".

Polly Biscuits

1 C - uncooked oatmeal
3/4 C - powdered milk
1/3 C - butter
1/2 C - cornmeal
1 tsp - vegetable bouillon
1 egg, beaten, with shell (washed)
1 1/2 C - hot water
3 1/2 C - multigrain flour

Preheat oven to 325 degrees F.

In a large bowl, pour hot water over the oatmeal, butter, and bouillon. Let it stand about 5 minutes. Stir in the powdered milk, cornmeal, and the egg. Add flour, 1/2 cup at a time, mixing well after each addition. Knead 5-7 minutes, adding more flour if necessary to make a very stiff dough. Roll out on a floured board to 1/2 inch thickness and cut into shapes with any cookie cutter. Bake for about 35-50 minutes. Allow to cool and place on wire rack to totally dry before storing. This makes about 1 to 1 1/2 lbs.
