You really can't trick her into eating new foods. Just try one thing at a time, like grated carrots in her trreat cup and BE patient. Eventually she will try it. Try it everyday. Or boiled egg, or chopped fresh broccoli. My birds also like apples. Switching to pellets takes LOTS of patience and time. Good Luck ;D

I made my first progress with rice and beans, which people here had mentioned as a possibility. My goal was to get her to eat pellets, because that is a safe balanced diet, I believe. Like Kathy said, if you are patient and keep putting it out then she'll lose her fear of it. If you go down to "Feeding Your Budgie" on J2's web site, she quotes a good method to try ( home.earthlink.net/~judyjudd/budfaq.html ). I more or less used it and it worked for me. I also did use a "trick" too. I would always serve some pellets with the rice and beans, so she was well used to them also, even if she wouldn't eat them. When she liked the beans, I started mixing them with ground pellets, so she'd have to eat some of the pellet to get the beans. Then I started mixing some of the pellets in with the bean's gravy. Then I reduced the portion of beans, and tried just giving her pellets in bean gravy. A day or two later, I heard her crunching on the dry pellets, which I had left in her food dish between meals, and she would eat them after that. Oh, one other trick is to make a show of eating the food you want her to try yourself. At a year old I'm not sure how chummy you two are. I'm not sure whether or not my bird would be imitating me yet at that point. Good luck.

Avocado contains a chemical that is poisonous to many animals, including budgies. It happens to not be poisonous to humans. Chocolate can also be dangerous to parrots (and dogs).
