If he is developing bald patches, it's not normal. If he's just losing feathers it's probably molting.

I can't see your bird to see if there's anything wrong. If the area around his eye is baldiing (skin shows through) he should see a vet. If you have just noticed loose feathers in the area and there is no balding it's probably just a molt.

Hello. Yes, the old forum was simple, but the new one has advantages and is easier to manage. Most people may not notice your posting here. You're better off if you post one level up by clicking on "new thread" under "General Avian Advice" instead of posting under,"new Do you have a question about a budgie (parakeet)?"
I'm so sorry about the loss of your budgie chicks. Budgie hens can be good parents, but like people there is lots of variation in individuals. On this site they don't recommend breeding pet birds until you're you have educated yourself on the subject, and know you can deal with emergencies that arise, because little tragedies like yours can happen. I'm not familiar with breeding myself, hopefuly someone else will respond too. I do know that budgies can make fine parents. However, some don't care for the chicks. They can be rescued by hand feeding, although this can be inconvenient. Did you provide a nestbox? How did they happen to have chicks? I'll look in the other section also, in case you want to repost there.

Does any have a recommendation for a place (store or breeder) to buy hand raised parakeets from in Broward County?

My parakeet has lost feathers around her eyes. I lost my first parakeet two months ago. It is a tough time to go to the vet right now and pay so much money for something simple. What could be wrong and is there any home remidy I can do?
