What a beautiful blue Bubba bird. Far more comely than any other bird in that row, although I suppose I can't quite see them as well. How do you officially describe his variety/color?

Thanks Michael,
Bubba is a normal cobalt. I'm not overly pleased with his color - it really should be a bit darker. He has a GREAT body, but his head could be better - he really should have more dome space from the top of the eye to the top of the dome. He could stand to be of wider feather.
Being critical of him like this only shows the direction of hens I need to put with him to hopefully correct some of these problems. Last year I bred some rather short bodied birds, BUT they have great feather and GREAT heads. Now I need to cross those in hopes of producing much better birds. Bubba is going to be VERY busy starting at the end of October! I have plans on him working 4 breeding cages in the same cycle. He will be rotated to different hens/cages every few days. He is really going to need all that weight he has put on from August to September!

He has a GREAT body, but his head could be better So, how is his conversation? You're so physical, Kerry. Do they have inbred budgie strains, like they do for lab mice or rabbits, homozygous at all genes, or is that frowned on?

It's because I have worked with live stock many years ago, horses and cattle a bit on the side lines.
The thing with inbreeding is that the bad traits tend to get heighten more so than the good traits. Looking my own pedigrees as well as those from the birds I have purchased there many of the birds can be spit for a lot of recessive stuff. One good example was a grey white that popped out in a clutch this year. His dad is a grey spangle and his mom is a cinnamon grey. There was one grey spangle hen, the grey white and a normal looking grey. I went back on the pedigrees and I the recessive white was further back than the pedigrees I had showed. Both mom and dad had to carry the gene for the mutation to become visible.
