I have a young Canary, she is about a year old. (no male canary) She has been building a nest for quite some time and each day I check to see if she has laid an egg. Today I got home at about 1:30 and checked on her. She was sitting in her nest looking out the window (normal). I checked on her again at about 4:30 and noticed there was what looked like an egg without a shell under her perch. I wasn't to concurned sence this would be her first egg, however about an hour later I checked her again and ther was blood in the bottom of her cage and she is breathing heavy and all puffed up. What can I do for her?

I hope you have gotten this bird to an avian vet! What you are describing is an eggbound bird, and that egg without a shell is trouble, in any case, whether a first egg or a 100th. This is a very quiet board but I am certain that if anyone did see our post yesterday you would have received a reply. Its purpose is general support, not emergency situations. Please, please take that bird to an avian vet ASAP!
