POL, Did you read any of the links that Micheal gave you? You said that you would post a picture of your bird. I would also like to see a picture of his cage and any toys that he could be rubbing on when you're not watching. Does he eat anything other than seed? Pellets-Veggies-Carrots-Brocoli-Eggs-Etc.? If you were loosing your hair all of a sudden, would you not go to a Doctor or just ask someone on line? Thats why a vet visit would be the best thing for your bird. Alice

Hi Guys! Amen to Kerry's suggestions. One note which may help.......... this product is 5% SEVIN DUST, and can be purchased at most Home Improvement stores......... However, until you KNOW that your bird is losing it's feathers because of mites (which is actually quite rare), you are getting ready to put an insecticide on a bird that may be medically compromised for another reason. This may not be the best for the bird........... Just a thought, BV

If I am wrong I am sorry...it sounds like you are young and probably live with your parents. Again sorry if I'm wrong. Maybe they don't understand the need for a vet visit. Show them all the posts and maybe they will let you take your bird to the vet. Most vets will work out a payment plan.

ahhhh kathy!! u are absolutely correct!! you couldnt be any more right, it was hard enough trying to get them to take my bird to the vet when he had pnemonia(hes ok now) cuz they are always like oh, vets are a rip off and so expensive! and all that stuff. thats y instead of having to type all this i just put that I didnt have enough money.
and i have NO idea y it says im 19, and if i put that, then i have no idea why. i cant remember. im 16 years old. and i dont have a job right now, so ya i dont have any money(thats thats y i said i dont have any money too)
yes i read micheal's posts and i dont know when i might have a picture of th-
i just thought of something! i have another bird and they share the cage(yes its big enough) do u think maybe the other bird bullies the first bird?? =O
theres nothing he could rub on in the cage, and i leave the cage door open(its in my bedroom) cuz i think its mean to leave them stuck in there all day while im at school so then i would have to give u a picture of my whole room in detail, which i dont want to do.

Hi! You are very correct about the other bird "bullying"! Which one was in the cage first? Is one bigger or older? Two of my cockatiels went through this. Pearl was older and I wanted to put Dimitri(younger and smaller) with her. A friend told me to put the older bird in the younger birds cage instead of the younger in with the older, they are territorial about their cages. This worked to a point, but after a few months Dimitri had no tail feathers! Thats okay because now pearl has no crest! She only had one feather in her crest, she was left in the nest too long and her daddy plucked them out! Dimitri got even. I hope this helps

the one thats losing his feathers is older and it was his cage but he has shared with birds before, i really dont think he has a problem with that cuz he loves other birds company
but im also kinda wondering if maybe its not bullying cuz the younger bird doesnt really bite. he just snaps at the older bird. like he doesnt even bite me and when i TRIES to bite me its just like a little nibble so i dont know what to do.
my mom was finally thinking about taking him to the vet. we have a petsmart here and they have a walk in vet clinic i guess thats what it is) or maybe just a vet place. do u think i would cost less then normal? cuz normal just to get a check up it cost like $50!!!!!! LIKE WOAH

Hi! As far as a vet goes, price depends on the vet. My vet does a well pet checkup free the first time. My dad's vet only charged $25 for removing an egg. I would call and check around. It doesn't seem to be a life threatening problem so it should be safe to "shop around". I also thought of one other thing, is it possible that the birds are male and female? If they are and the older one is female it could be that he wants to start a family and she does'nt. My breeder cockatiels get along great, but the female is missing feathers from her face, I never saw it happen, but I am pretty sure the male did it! like I said I am no expert, I just love my birds and base my opinions on their behavior and I also have a friend that has been raising birds for 25 years.

The'white sheet" trick only works for red mites, which are actually quite uncommon unless your bird is kept outside. Knemidokoptes mites ("Scaly Face Mite") lives underneath a bird's skin and does not crawl around the cage. Thus, you will never see this mite on a white sheet. Sevin dust only helps to treat external parasites, which Knemidokoptes is NOT. In addition, if your bird is medically compromised, and you use Sevin Dust, it is likely that your bird will become very ill. IMO, either take your bird to an avian vet for proper diagnosis, or stop making everyone crazy by continuing to post the same questions and comments. BV
