Joee has been hospitalized. She's lost a lot of weight, and her stools are still a dark green, and she's still not digesting her food. They're going to be doing major injections, for her meds... She weighed in at 28g., from 40g... It just doesn't look good for her. Will keep you posted. I want to wish all of you a "Safe and Happy New Year". I just wish I could say this about Joee.

Hang in there Joee. Get better now. We're all routing for her. It sounds like she's getting the best of care.

Sheila, was reading posts last nite, but too tired to post. Poor Joee, that is a lot of weight to loose for a little one. Sending hugs to both of you and a little to Joee to get better. You are doing all you can, don't be hard on yourself. XX OO Alice

Thanks all! Just heard from the vet office. Joee has gained some weight, but they're still concerned about her not digesting her food (shows up in her droppings). They said they have stopped the fluids, and are feeding by tubing; not sure how this works... Her liver was showing abnormalties, but they're still please with her progress. So, please keep your prayers coming.
"Happy New Years!"

Sheila,
Little steps often turn into big ones. That she's gaining weight is a good sign. We are all concerned. Please keep us posted.

Joee is @ 34g, which is good. She is appearing more alert, and is eating her millet (although she was doing that, before I took her to the hospital). She's still not digesting her seeds, and still hospitalized. The vet mentioned something about me injecting her antibiotics; I have given insulin injections, to my cat, and had to hydrate another cat, with a bigger needle. I feel like I could do it, but I'm concerned that maybe Joee would be going home too soon. I'll talk to the vet office again tomorrow.
Hope all had a safe New Years! Our guests didn't leave until 2:30am, and I finally got into bed 4:30am today! We had fun, at our Bingo New Year's Party!

I'm glad to hear that Joee gained some weight & eating some millet, that is 'comfort food'
How and where would you give injections to a small bird? and hold her still?
I'm glad you had a fun New Years Party. We stayed home stuffing ourselfs with 'shrimp cocktail- stuffed shrimp- steak- and a bottle of wine' and watched 'The Ball fall on TV at Times Sq.' We just reminessed about all the yrs. we use to go dancing etc. at restarants or the VFW. Than we talked about how we use to buy tickets in High School & take the bus to New Haven to be on TV [Ch. 8] to be on 'Band Stand' with thingy Clark. Have you ever watched that show? or am I giving away my age? LOL
Let us know what the vet says tomorrow, and how Joee is doing. XXOO Alice

I'm glad Joey is still hanging in. Sometimes the supportive care alone is enough to help get over a problem.

Goofy and I are keeping our toes crossed for her.
I have had to give shots to a few birds over the years. It's not that bad. Just be sure you have the vet show you how to do it.
Keeping your baby in our thoughts and prayers.

Alice It's pottymouthism like this that makes me glad I live north of the border. Doesn't Bennedict Arnold come from Conn? (Or was it Nathan Hale, -I sometimes get my heroes of the revolution mixed up.)

Alice, they showed me how to give the injections. If you take your bird and have it face you, then the right side, would be on the leftside. The bone that goes down the middle of the body, on the underside, is called the Keel Bone. There's four places, two on each side, where I can do the injection. I have to rotate, the place where I'll do the injection, so I don't do it in the same place 2x's in a row. I'll have to wrap Joee in a towel, and hopefully Bill will hold her for me, while I do the injection. The needle is long, which surprised me, and I don't have to go very deep; just enough to inject the med.
I'm beginning to wonder if I made a wrong decision, in treating her. She's still not digesting her seed, and they said if this antibiotic doesn't work, then I might need to start thinking about her quality of life... I'm so sad and feel so guilty; I don't want her to suffer and not sure if I've been right all along. I really don't know what to do, for I've spent 100's of $$$ already, and not told Bill how much.... I want to do the right thing, but I really don't know anymore.
Kerry, what more can they do, if this antibiotic doesn't work, and she still can't digest her food? The vet mentioned something about it being like having indigestion all day long, I guess like acid reflux. So, this alarms me about her being in pain. They said she still has a high count of bacteria, and I'm not sure how she got it; when the other birds don't (at least I don't believe they do)...

Ohh 'poor Joee, 'poor Sheila' I hope the antibiotics work. Did they clip her wings to make it easier for you to towel her and hold? They will grow back. Is there a way for the others birds to be tested by maybe pulling a feather from the other birds? or would they have to go for blood work?
I'm back, had a phone call. PLEASE don't blame yourself, we all have good & bad bacteria all around us. Joee just picked up something like we get colds etc. Keep us posted on how she's doing, and you too. XXOO Alice
