I'm so sorry for you and Joey, Sheila. I'm for you, whatever your decisions are. Life can be difficult and we just try and do as well as we can sometimes, I guess, and other times are happier. Sometimes getting an infection has more to do with having a weak immune system at the moment than being exposed to a particularly bad bacteria.

Well this morning it was very nerve wrecking, trying to give Joee her injection. Bill had to hold her, and he wasn't much help! He said it was more than he could take!!! So this evening was a little better for me, and I did the injection all by myself! I'm trying to get Joee to eat other foods, besides pellets and seeds. I'm not sure if she is digesting the seeds... I gave her some lentils to eat tonight, hopefully she will. I'll check on her, in a few. I appreciate all your thoughts, prayers, and well wishes.

Sheila,
I'm sorry Joee is not turing around very fast. I don't know what to tell you. I wish Birdvet would chime in here.
Keeping you all in my thoughts and prayers.

Update on Joee... She is eating lentils and boiled eggs, along w/millet and seed. I'm not sure if she's eating her pellets... As for her weight, I don't know if she's gained anymore, I don't believe she's lost any. I don't know how to tell if she still has seeds, in her stools. She starts squalking, when I walk into the room, and runs around in her pet carrier; when she sees me. I wished I could put her back in the cage, with the other two; although she's in the same room. So, hopefully she's improving. I'm going to see about taking her back, to the vet, in a week.

Tonight was horrible!!! I didn't get the injected med in her!!! Bill stressed out, and I don't ask him to help me, and she's so feisty! She ended up pulling the needle out with her foot, and it caused her to bleed! Yes I do have her wrapped in a towel, but she works her way out... I was so upset, that I just gave her oral medicine to her and put her back in the pet carrier. I'm going to try again tomorrow am, but not looking forward to it. She's eating the lentils and boiled eggs, along with the seeds and millet. I don't know how much she has improved or not.

Keep up the good work. It's good that the's eating, that should help keep her strong until you have another go at it. I wonder if there's a place you can put her once you have her wrapped in the towel to help restrain her more. Like the crook of a chair or a bowl or something that will help hold her steady. You just need to make sure she's not too confined for too long, because she'll need to expand her chest to breathe (you probably know that parakeets don't have a diaphram to breathe without expanding the chest like we do). I know they have in laboratories a 'mouse restrainer' that is like a tube the mouse can be slid into to give injections. (A soup can with both ends removed, and perhaps cut in half?). I'm just tossing out ideas in case anything might help Again, you're doing good. keep it up. It's stressful but misshaps can happen sometimes.

That's a good idea Michael. But I'm thinking that a can can have sharp edges? I'm thinking of some kind of cardboard tube, like one from paper towels, but larger, maybe from Christmas wrap? a washed 'Pringle Chip' container cut to size? or how about cutting off the top of a sock and slip it over her so she can't flap her wings, not a tight one, but it would be like someone else holding her. I know they are strong little buggers, and fast!!! I agree, you're doing great, even though you're getting the evil eye. Alice Here's a link I was reading. www.petmedicinechest.com/avian/Default.asp

Sorry about not getting back sooner, with an update... Took Joee back to the vet yesterday (and others days too). She's up to 38gms, and branching. I was told the branching is new bacteria growing, and there's still some signs of bad bacteria. So hopefully the good bacteria will overcome the bad bacteria. They said there's no need to continue medicine, but to keep using the Ornabac, on her food. It has been a long road to recovery, since Dec., and we did the oral antibiotics, hospitalized, injectible antibiotics, and putting the antibiotics, in her water. She eats, but not active; although she never was an active bird, all by herself. But she is on the road to recovery. I just wished I had this much luck with my Jimmie...

I just observed something, and it has me worried... I put Joee in a small cage, instead of the pet carrier. Well, as I've said before, she's never been an active bird, by herself. Well, as I sat and watched her, after about 10-15min., she started to move to her seed cup. Now this is what I'm worried about.
She appeared as if she was going to try to fly, inside the cage. She then started shaking her head, and sort of rotating it, then she was sort of laying on her body, after her body was moving in a twisted way. I thought for a moment she was dying, and now I'm wondering if she's having mini seizures.
I'm wondering if she's been having seizures, and that's why she's not flying as she use to.
I hope this isn't so, for then it doesn't look good afterall.

Hi Sheila,
Don't know what to tell you about this. Hopefully Kerry will sign on. How did she appear after this behavior stopped? Was she tired, scared, or how? Sivin

She's been eating, and perching. She doesn't really move around, but she's by herself, and never was an active bird. I don't know, if anyone remembers me saying that my husband called her a "deadbeat bird" for she didn't have any personality. But the moment she was put in a cage w/other birds, she came alive. So, I hoping she'll get active again, when we put her back in a cage w/other birds.
I hope this wasn't a seizure.
