A really easy, and REALLY good hot spiced apple cider drink! Take a nice large crockpot (mine's an oval six quart, and I loff it!), and glurk a couple bottles of apple cider in. Take a handful of cinnamon sticks, whole cloves, and whole allspice berries & place them in a small square of cheesecloth & tie it into a nice little bundle with string (plain white cooks string...colored string will bleed into your cider ). Toss the little bundle in the cider, set it to low, and leave it all day. If you want to be really pretty, stud a couple oranges with cloves in pretty designs & patterns, and float them in the cider. The oranges add a nice flavor as well, too. Start the cider an hour or two before people arrive...that'll give it time to heat up, and also time to fragrance the whole house. ;D

Love to simmer spices, and this sounds so good added to apple cider to greet your guests. You can make up some of those little bundles and give them to friends to take home.
In todays newspaper Heloise had this hint:
Cream Soup Mix to put in little jars, decorate with ribbon. Put in a basket lined with a hoiday napkin, add a soup mug, ladle, pot holder, etc. for a gift.
1 cup dried milk 1 tsp. onion flakes 2 tbsp. cornstarch 2 tbsp. chicken or beef boulillon powder 1/2 tsp. dried basil 1 tsp. thyme 1/4 tsp. black pepper
