I saw the sweetest thing outdoors, just a few minutes ago... I was opening up my vertical blinds to my back door patio. I stopped as soon as I saw two cardinals (male and female) on the ground, underneath the bird feeders. Both were eating, but the male would hop over to the female and feed her. He did this several times as I watched, then the female flew off w/ food in her mouth; the male followed. It appears they're mates and possibly have a nest close by. I hope so, for I'd love to see more cardinals soon!

Oh lucky you! I've only seen cardinals a few times, though my husband is from Illinois and says they are very common there. The feeding bit I see a lot though with the budgies, but it still is precious!

Shiela, Where's the pic? You got the new cam. We've had a few couples of cardinals the past few yrs. They love sunflower seeds. They make that 'chip-chip-chip' from the trees, but seem to go to the brush and the Yews. Last yr. one couple brought their baby to the feeders. It was able to fly to the back deck, but couldn't get to the feeder, so both parents fed h/s taking turns as it kept fluffing up feathers with beak open. So cute to watch these parents protecting it. I hope you get to watch this with your couple, sounds like they are mating. Plant some bird seed and grass seed somewhere in the coner of your yard, excuse not to mow there, they do like to ground feed. At least these do. 'Happy Bird Watching' Have lots of pics. in cam. and album, but not in photobucket. I just took a pic. of one new one that we don't know what it is. It probably came down from the Naugatuck State Forest that was on fire over the weekend. We finally got rain today. Thank God! We sure need it here in Ct. Will post some pics. when I go through them etc. Even a Yellow-belly woodpecker, that is one huge bird! Alice PS- Shut flash off when taking pics. throuh the window from inside. Learned the hard way.
