I took my 4yr old female to the vet today...
She was fine until last night when she seemed too quiet. I noticed that her face and looked wet, like she had stuck it in the water dish.
I got her out to examine her and while she was walking around on the top of the cage she shook her head and clear liquid came out of her mouth. It's slightly thicker than water.
She was eating, drinking, playing, etc all day yesterday, as normal. This morning, she drank water, but did not eat. I took her to the vet and he said that there's not sign of yeast, and only a small amount of bacteria, so we are treating her with bactril.
I gave her the first treatment tonight, but a minute later, she shook her head and expelled clear liquid again.
Now, I don't know if she even got any medication down. I don't want to risk it by trying to give her more.
She is perching, and is not puffy.
Since she has not eaten, her droppings are liquid and a cream color.
I'm going to cook some frozen broccoli and some barley, and mash it up to see if she will eat it. I might try to put a VERY tiny amount in the syringe and hold it to her mouth.
She's not wheezing, coughing, or sneezing.
I don't know what to do.
I feel like there has to be more I can do.
I feel like she needs nutrition, and I'm not sure how to make sure she's getting some.
This is the first time I've seen this vet. Our prior avian vet moved far away.
Please post anything you think is useful.
If there's a better food combination that provides the maximum amount of nutrients, please tell me.
Oh, and there was/is nothing in our environment that could have caused this...I am aware of all the dangers, and nothing happened that could have caused this.
ALSO, I noticed that this forum is not as active as it used to be. If there is another place to post, please tell me.
Thanks in advance.
