I am sad to report I lost Cosmo today He was not responding the meds like I thought he should and was losing weight - so I was a little worried - he began throwing up at lunch - so I made an appt to take him today for some x-rays - well I got a call that he never recovered from the anesthetic - the xrays showed a large mass in his chest and was taking most of his air space so he couldn't breath. She did an autopsy on him right away and found his organs were all enlarged, his stomach was really thin and floppy instead of being really hard. That is why there was undigested seed in his droppings - also he had the onset of Pneumonia - there was fluid in his lungs.......I am so sad at this point - he was such a big part of my life - but I know if he flying free now and has no more trouble breathing, and is not suffering anymore, I may not be back on for a little while - still trying to cope, but I did want to give everyone an update. RIP Cosmo - 6/21/07

Mandii,
Soo sorry to hear about Cosmo. We do all that we could to help these little ones. I'm sure he felt your love and is 'flying free' with all our feathered birds who passed.

Oh Mandii,
You did a lot for this little bird. Sometimes no matter what all we try it is just not to be. He had a wonderful life with you and was one very lucky little bird.
I know how you feel. I had a Barraband cock die in my arms. I was crushed and through the tears I had to get the info to send his body off for necropsy. My friend was crying just as hard as I was and she didn't even know this bird. Anyway my guy had a bad case of pneumonia. I didn't catch it sooner because every time I went into the aviary he went to the outdoor flight pen.
I am so sorry for your loss,
Kerry

Thank you so much for all your kind thoughts and words - I am doing better today - I still miss him terribly - but I know he is flying free and has no more pain and that is all that matters. I still feel some guilt for taking him in - but I just keep telling myself it wasn't my fault - I didn't know - plus it was probably the best way for him to go - it was peaceful and I have so many good memories of him! I was just looking thru some video clips of him and I found one of him talking! He says, "pretty boy, he's a pretty boy, come here, and Cosmo's great" I just laughed - I don't think I ever replayed the clip before - if I can figure out how to put in here I will..........Thanks again for everything - it really has made me feel better - he was truly a gift from God and blessed my life in so many ways!!! Fly free Cosmo -

I've been tuned out for a while, but I wish you late condolences. It sounds like Cosmo was a great bird. You did everything you had to do for him.

I've been away and just now reading this sad update. Mandii I'm so sorry to hear about Cosmo. I know it's hard to lose a beloved pet and we do what we're capable of when it comes to caring for them. If we had our way, there never would be any illnesses or deaths, but it's out of our control. Again my deepest sympathy.
