Hi,
Up until a few weeks ago I had a pair of 5- year- old budgies in one cage, a two-year- old male budgie in his own cage, and a nine year old female budgie in her own cage. All birds knew each other. Upon the death of the 5-year-old male I decided to put the surviving three into one large cage, but now I'm having second thoughts.
I'm wondering whether the senior budgie should be in her own cage; whether this arrangement might be too stressful for her. The other female is forever tearing up the cage paper (normal for her, all year) and the male, being a large English type, has proclaimed himself king of the cage.
Any thoughts?
Thanks!

Just read your post, I'm soo sorry to hear of your loss. Just my input- I would leave your 9 yr. old in her own cage.
Now putting a larger 2 yr. old male in with your other 5 yr. old female? Maybe putting the 2 together when you're home to watch them, and see if they get along, and go from there.
Again, sorry for your loss. Let us know what you decided to do.
Alice

Could you put the cages next to each other, and let them decide where to go? I haven't had multiple birds so I don't know how such things work. If you put the males and females together do breeding issues come up?

Hi Everybody,
Thanks for our replies. The birds did their own sorting out but I decided to remove the younger female into her own cage since the other two seem to be bonding. They all seem happy at this point, though the solo female has presented us with two eggs (one omelet so far) and the other two are feeding each other.
Whatever, Sivin

What ever works is best. These little guys have minds of their own! Alice Opps missed replying about the 2 eggs. One omelet so far! LOL
