in my house, and guess where I found it?!?!? One of my budgies, either Nipper or Joee, has developed a squeaky wheel chirp !!! I have searched throughout my house, for this squeaky wheel sound, and have finally realized it's one of my budgies!!! Can I oil their throats/birdie cords ;D ? It's so cute, although I keep looking for the squeaking wheel !!!

Hi,
I wonder whether he's imitating the microwave?
Just a thought.

I think I finally figured out where they learned the squeaky wheel sound.... I had moved my budgies into another room, when I brought Tex and Rose home. The room I moved them into has a floor registry vent cover. This vent cover squeaks when the air (heat/cool) flows through it. I had to close the vent, due to the squeaking noise, and guess what!?!? YEP! Nipper or Joee has taken up that sound, when they chirp!!! This has absolutely been driving me nuts!!! They didn't make this sound, before they were moved into the room, and now they do. It's funny how they mimic sounds you would never expect! I have been walking around in my house trying to figure out the sqeaking, especially after I had closed that vent! When I walk into the room, they would stop, and start up when I walked out!!!

I think I told youall about Peppy and his squeaky screen door noise!! He scared me to death one night because I thought someone was coming into my house when I was alone!
These little guys & gals are SO much fun, but they can be little stinkers, too! ;D

My budgie used to do the microwave. Cockatiel makes a squeaky meal sound, but I think it's an amorous expression. She does it while leaning over from the side of the cage, with her back arched. Sound familiar to anyone else? The budgie made odd sounds, too, in that situation, but I can't remember exactly what.

Our budgies make loud 'whistle sounds' and nobody whistles in the house? Maybe the tea kettle? When one chatters the others join in, and make all kind of noises. I kind of talk softly to them, so they mumble back to me. I swear they are saying something I repeat over & over like 'Pretty bird- Good bird- etc' When I say their name they kind of move their head, and when I say stretch and put my arm out, they'll stretch their wing & one leg out. When they fly over our heads, just touching our hair, they do a loud chrip. Pretty funny little girls with big personalities. Alice

The swooping and skimming my hair reminds me of the old story about bats getting tangled in your hair.
I wonder how bats are as pets? I suppose they drop their metabolism to nothing much of the time and would be boring, or they'd need too much exercise the rest of the time.
