Hi All!
Just wanted to let you know that Jody & I get a new budgies last week. His name is PeppyIII. He looks almost like Peppys I & II, both of which were a real cobalt. III has just a little more green in him - sort of looks like a turquoise blue, but not quite, if you know what I mean?
He seems to be doing well; has the cutest little whistle! Our Tuffy doesn't know what to make of him (they're in seperate cages yet, of course) and seperated, although Tuff Girl can hear him.
Hope all goes well with both of them.

Congratulations. Where did you get him? I wonder how common personality conflicts are that require separation?

We got him from a pet shop that's near us. Jody's been going there for years and watching how they do things and checking out the birds. They seem to be very capable, especially with the birds.
The seperation right now is for the quarantine period, but we're hoping we don't have to KEEP them seperated after that. We plan to move Tuffy into the new cage with Peppy since I am guessing that male birds are less territorial than the females. This is a guess only by observation, however. If they start beating up on each other, they'll get seperated again.

Hi Alice. Hope you had an enjoyable trip. We just got back from Milford, CT on Monday afternoon. I knew you were going to be away at the same time though, so I didn't say anything about getting together.
We're hoping Peppy & Tuffy get along!

We got our birds from a pet store in town too. They are clean and take care of the birds good too. Are you prepared for babies with a male & female together? Just a thought.
Too bad we couldn't get together again this year, but I sometimes have to work around my daughters schedule at the lab. We go in June, than again in Aug. This year we took the kids for 4 days, than Mom came Sat. night after work & stayed over till Sun. night and took them home. I love the girls, but we need a rest because we take care of them since they were 6 weeks, and both mom & dad work. Valerie turned 11 Aug. 17 Had her party Sun. Natilie will be 14 next Feb. I have to post some camp pics. next week when I go through them. Alice

We're hoping the two of them don't like each other THAT much! I've read that not all males & females get along enough to want to mate! I hope that's right! We certainly aren't prepared to take on babies! This was Jody's idea - I hope I don't have to hold it over his head with a few "told you sos" added for good measure!! ;D

If I remember right, we use to bring the females to the males to breed. Thumper was a great stud. I'm talking rabbits, and remove them in a day or two, and hope for the best. With birds, both mom & dad take care of the babies most of the time. But I don't think I have the time or energy to care for babies night & day if needed. How old is Tuffy? Alice

Hi Alice!
Boy! Am I behind with my reading and replying!! Sorry. It's getting harder and harder to get near this dad-gummed computer since Jody's been running for Borough Council and been involded in the Democratic Committee in our area!! Sheesh!!
Tuffy is about 4 years old, I think. Maybe only three. When we got her from the family she was over a year but I don't remember how long ago that was! (Olde Tymers' Disease!)
But, here's the best part! We have a third birdie!! His name is Chippie and we got him from a neighbor whose dog absolutely hates him! Chippie is 4 and a beautiful pied budgie. I'm not sure what the offical name for his coloring is though. His wings and tail and head are all white. His lower back is a solid beautiful blue color and his chest and belly are splotched with the blue. The black bars on his wings go only about half way down. He's really pretty!
My daughter thinks we're nuts for having three birds, but I'd have even more if we had the room for them!! I love the little darlings!!

Wow, a 3rd birdie 'Chippie' sounds really pretty. Are you going to put all 3 in the new cage? Why not even it out, have 4 like we do. LOL Went to the pet shop to get one to relpace Sky 1 so Sunny would have a friend, and came home with 3. What a softy I am. LOL
Good luck to Jody, hope he wins, than he'll be at meetings and you get back the computer. LOL Alice

Thanks Alice! I'll tell Jody you're rootin' for him!
All three budgies are doing well now. We had a bit of an upset with PIII two weeks ago - he was sitting all puffed up and lethargic and it turns out he had bad bacteria in his intestinal tract. We gave him an antibiotic (from the Avian vet) then had to does him up with yougurt to put the good bacteria back! He's all peppy for sure again though!
